Fairey Swordfish MK1

G-BMGC / W5856

W5856 is the oldest surviving airworthy example in the world. She is often seen on the airshow circuit and a truly delightful aeroplane to see. It really is such a privilege to work on these old aeroplanes, especially those with a long standing history which can sometimes be overlooked. It gives us a real sense of pride when we are able to contribute to their continued airworthiness. It is never straightforward dealing with aged fabrics, especially those that have been subject to oil ingression, sun bleaching and general wear and tear. The somerset Aeroplane carried out the overhaul of the dummy torpedo, doping and refinishing the empennage section including new stenciling and camouflage top skins. On going work still continues to this day to ensure she looks in the best condition in the public eye.
